Transport forum solidifies regional connections
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation will facilitate the development of a Cross-Regional Advisory Group to ensure transport links between the Illawarra, South Coast, Western Sydney and Southern Highlands meet future community needs.
To be comprised of key stakeholders from each region, the group will focus on developing strong transport links from Western Sydney and the Aerotropolis to Macarthur, Wollondilly and Illawarra Shoalhaven.
The initiative is a leading outcome of the Cross-Regional Transport Forum held online yesterday.
The collaborative think-tank included appearances by Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney The Hon. Stuart Ayres; Minister for Roads and Transport The Hon. Andrew Constance; Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services The Hon. Gareth Ward; Member for Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith MP and Wollongong Lord Mayor and ISJO Chairman Cr Gordon Bradbery, AM. They joined senior managers, planners and directors from a range of government organisations, business groups and independent organisations to explore the current issues and solutions for the short, medium and longer term.
ISJO Chief Executive Leanne Taylor said the forum promoted discussion of critical transport needs for the next 50 years.
“The key to this forum was having so many major players in the transport arena coming together to share information and thoughts about what is possible to achieve in coming years,” she said.
“By working together at all levels from the community through to state government, we have greater potential to get things done. Our plan to create an advisory group will provide ongoing consultation and discussion with the Transport for NSW management team on plans connecting new growth areas and the impacts on inter and intra-regional transport links.
“We will also keep open lines of communication with the Ministers and actively engage with them on all developments.”
